Studio Update

We are working on our new studio space and hoping to complete the move sometime this fall. Our studio will then be in the lower level of our home. We have already set up a temporary office and complete most of our post-production there. So, appointments are more important than ever because we are not in the studio as often. Our clients are very important to us, so if you would like to come in please just give us a call so we can set something up! We're very excited about the move. We'll keep you posted...

Obviously, it has been awhile since we have blogged. I swear, we are not just slackers! We do have a pretty good excuse: we were building our house and moving in. We have done some pretty awesome photo sessions the past couple of months. We were just pounding away at our house (literally!) so much that we didn't have a chance to post any shots.

In February we had our annual sports photos for Upward Basketball. This is always a riot to shoot. The kids range in age from kindergarten through 8th grade. It's a great program and we are proud to be a part of it.

We photographed Brandy and Mark for their engagement session....

Ironically, their wedding is this afternoon and I'm so excited! They are an adorable couple and I know we are going to get some beautiful shots at the wedding.

We also met Nathan & Layla in February. Their mom, Heather, heard about us through a friend and came in for a really fun shoot. Nathan was a little tough guy with his tattoos and skateboard. What a ham, that boy loves the camera!

Of course, Layla is a darling princess. Her mom found these cool ballerina outfits online and Layla made a beautiful little dancer!

Two of our long-time clients came in for maternity photos. We photographed Chris & Troy's wedding in 2004 and have had the pleasure of photographing their family several times since then.

Baby Kaelen was born shortly after we did the maternity session. I had the opportunity to photograph him already and will be posting some of my faves soon.

Joy & Kevin are another previous wedding couple that have allowed us to capture their growing family.

We have gotten to watch their daughter grow literally since she was born. We made some cool books showcasing her first year. Here's a collage from her 6 month shoot. I can't believe how big she is now!

We are looking forward to taking some cuddly newborn photos of Joy & Kevin's new baby girl this Tuesday.

We have lots more sessions to post, thanks so much for bearing with us! We are coming full-swing into wedding season but I am going to try my best to keep everyone updated on the happenings around ETV.

Snowstorm? Ha! Megan & Jay had a beautiful winter wedding despite the incredible amount of snow that was dumped on us that day! We took full advantage of the blowing flurries & they made a stunning backdrop for their photographs.

I met this awesome family when they came in for our holiday special in December. As soon as I met them, I knew I would love to photograph them! The girls are adorable and for this session we did some personal portraits of each and some fun ones of the three of them together.

A New Look

I have been on the lookout for some time now for some unique furniture that would fit the style of our studio. I wanted something funky, fun and modern. Something with classic lines and bright, bold colors. Well, how about orange leather furniture? Yes, that's right. We found a killer deal on this awesome set and couldn't pass it up! It looks so cool in our studio and matches our color scheme perfectly. And the best part: we now have so much more seating in the front and a place to look through books and chat comfortably. We moved the backgrounds and lights to the back room which gives us a ton more space to shoot in. So the next time you're in the area stop in and check it out!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our wonderful clients! We have had a fantastic year and have had the opportunity to photograph some really amazing folks. We have a pretty cool job but what makes it all worthwhile is the people. To photograph a four-year-old and then have her mom tell us that she played "photographer" for a week following, posing everything from her dolls to their cat, really touches our hearts. The wonderful letters and e-mails that we receive from newlyweds expressing their gratitude for their wedding photos mean so much to us. We get inspired so much from the people we work with. We have had some really awesome couples this year ask us to be a part of their wedding. Shantel and Drew are definitely one of them! They are both incredibly warm-hearted and kind and also extremely fun to be around! We had such a wonderful time working with them. They truly made us feel so welcome, like we were a part of the family.

We photographed Drew's sister's wedding last fall and she sent me a hilarious e-mail about the following photo. I believe it went something like this: "You say 'okay, jump!' and my husband does a handstand! Do you see what I live with?". Can you guess which one is her hubby??

This gorgeous girl also happens to be my younger sister. Lori was the first person to ever model for me. As an aspiring eleven-year-old photographer, I grabbed my little sis and mom's camera and we did a photo shoot complete with stuffed animals and bunk beds! She is also my favorite person in the world to photograph to this day. Not only is she beautiful and very photogenic, she trusts me completely (even with the poses that feel really awkward!) and we always have lots of fun during our sessions.

We photographed a Saturday wedding at Castle Farms this summer and decided to make it into a long weekend in Charlevoix. Lori came along and we did the first part of her senior photos downtown and on the beach.

We waited for the leaves to reach their peak color and took some more photos in my parents' backyard. Mike and I are thrilled with the way they turned out!

Lori: we are so proud of you! You are such a wonderful, funny and beautiful girl. We are proud and honored to have you as a sister. We wish you many, many blessings as you finish up your last year of high school and go on to college next year! Love you!

We photographed Olivia and her mom, Megan, for their annual portrait. We used Megan's parent's backyard for our backdrop and I don't think it gets much better than that! We have some cool options for Christmas cards and they have them made for friends and family. As you can see, Olivia is a beautiful little girl that loves to show some love to the camera! =)

By the end of the shoot, Olivia was showing me how to take the photos and posing her mom for me! It was too cute. Maybe a future photographer...we'll see!

Okay, I've kinda been slacking on my blogging duties lately. September proved to be quite a busy month for us as we expected. Photographing seven weddings in one month always keeps us on our toes! So, for those of you checking the blog regularly, we apologize for the lack of new photos! By the way, we always love to hear feedback from our clients so if you have any comments to add please do so anytime.

We have great news...our studio is staying put! We're still going to be at our Miller Rd. address for the time being. We are building our home and have an anticipated move date of February 2009. At that time we will be moving the studio into our new space, giving us much more room. We're hoping to operate out of our current studio until we make our "big move" but nothing is carved in stone yet. We'll let everyone know if anything changes!

We had the pleasure of photographing Ceyx, an awesome local band, at Roethke Park in Thomas Township. This band has a HUGE following in mid-Michigan and is known by many as one of the best bands around. They play at different events around the area and we have had the opportunity to work with them at lots of weddings throughout the past several years. Here are some shots of them performing at the band-shell at Roethke.

Besides pounding away on the drums with Ceyx, Dean Rusch is also a DJ and owner of Rusch Entertainment Agency. We work with many of Rusch's DJs on a regular basis and they do such a great job! A few of our favorites are Corey, Ryan, Scott and of course, Dean! We had the pleasure of working with Dean at Lauren & Tony's wedding. Here are a few photos of him hard at work!

We took most of their photographs before the ceremony. This gave us lots of time to get some great romantic shots of the two of them and allowed them to move on to their reception almost immediately after the ceremony.

Man's Best Friend

Many of our clients know that we are huge dog lovers and some have even met our furry kids. We have two dogs: Buddha, a 4 year old shar pei, and Mac, a bullmastiff that is just over 6 months old. As I mentioned in a previous post, Mike and I took a trip to Higgins Lake the day after Labor Day and we couldn't resist taking our camera along. We had so much fun, maybe there's a new avenue of our business in the future?? :-)

Mac was born in February and was introduced to the beach several times this summer. There are so many great things about the beach!

The sticks taste great...

The water tastes great...

Shaking is so much more fun in the water!

Swimming is a blast (especially when there is a Frisbee involved)!

Buddha doesn't share Mac's love of the water but he does like working on his tan!

This guy looks good without even trying!

Even though Mac is already bigger than Buddha, he weighs somewhere around 80 lbs. compared to Buddha's 50, seniority rules when it comes to wrestling matches!

Some dog breeds have a bad reputation and that is part of what encouraged us to choose the dogs that we did. Both breeds have kind of a bad rap, which is completely undeserved. Their best buddy is a pitbull, another misunderstood breed. We hope that more people will give these dogs a chance and learn not to fear them.

Leah & Jason were an amazing couple to work with! We met them at a previous wedding that we photographed (Leigh & Tim-also an amazing couple!!) and are so glad that they remembered us as they planned their wedding day!

We went to a park between the ceremony and reception for some photos. Check out Leah's dress and head piece...she is absolutely stunning!

Leah & Jason had a long distance relationship before the wedding and they expressed how excited they are that now they don't have to be apart anymore!

All of their table decorations were handmade with branches out of their front yard. They were beautiful and created a warm, fall feeling at the reception.

This is the little guy that we photographed on Labor Day, which also happened to be his first birthday! We photographed his parents' wedding a few years ago and we're honored that we can document their growing family! What a cutie!

This shot of him showing off his puppy is my personal favorite!

Kevin is a senior at Bay City Western this year. When he came to us for his senior pics he brought his hobbies and interests to incorporate, which makes the photos so much more personal. We started at his house with a classic car and his dirt bike.

Then we were off to Monitor Lanes in Bay City, where his bowling team practices.

We headed downtown in search of an urban background for his rockstar shots. I think we found the perfect alley!

One of our favorite things about photography is capturing the relationship between people. We love taking portraits of individuals, such as high school seniors, and showcasing their personality through our images. But it is a wonderful challenge to portray the unique relationship between a bride and groom, an expectant mother and father, a father and son or in the case of Rae and Lauren, sisters. We are thrilled with the images from their session. Looking at them you can see their individual personalities but also the love and admiration they have for each other. It is obvious that Lauren looks up to her big sissy and wants to be just like her!

Melissa, these beautiful little girls' mom, is our sales rep at the Saginaw News. We are so glad that we met her and her wonderful family and are flattered that she chose us to photograph her girls! Thanks Melissa and thanks RaeAnn & Lauren for being such wonderful models!

We recently had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at Castle Farms in Charlevoix, MI. It is a really cool place and a great option for couples that want a destination-type wedding that is still close enough for friends and family to attend. It is also a beautiful setting for photos.

Erica & Troy are the absolutely gorgeous couple that asked us to photograph their wedding. I love this shot of Erica... The ceremony was outside in the Queen's Courtyard.

We photographed Dana & Kurt's wedding at Richville Park. Everything was in place for a awesome wedding: a beautiful bride, a gorgeous day, a great location and lots of cute kids!

I love these shots of Dana with their daughter. She is so cute!

It was obvious that Dana & Kurt have strong family ties. They included all of their nieces and nephews in their wedding day.

The ceremony was outside, next to a cool stone bridge over the river. Perfect!

Mike and I took off yesterday and headed up north for what will probably be our last beach day of the summer. We had a busy Labor Day weekend, photographing Leah & Jason's wedding on Saturday and then a day at the office and a photo session on Monday. I have to admit though, working with Leah and Jason didn't really feel like "working" at all! What a great couple! The session on Monday was for an adorable one year old little guy. We photographed his parent's wedding a couple years ago and since we just love to see our clients' families grow we couldn't pass up the opportunity! We'll be posting photos soon from both sessions.

We decided on somewhat of a whim to take a much needed day off and head to my family's cabin at Higgins Lake Monday night. On Tuesday we took advantage of the gorgeous day and took our dogs to the beach, went for a bike ride and went swimming. We got some great photos of our pooches splashing around in the water, I'll post some of these too soon. Now, we're back, feeling refreshed and ready for September which is shaping up to be our busiest month of the year. We hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!

Moving?

For those of you who may not know, we have a studio located in Shields on Miller Road. We have been there since May 2007 and really like it. BUT, our landlords are moving and we are not quite sure what is going to become of our cute little studio. We are in the process of building our home and have plans to move our business into a portion of our house. In the meantime, we are considering renting a small space to use as a gallery to meet with clients and moving our production area to our apartment. Since almost all of our sessions are done on location, we don't really need the studio lights and backdrops. We will be sad to say goodbye to our current "home away from home" but are curious to see what the next phase of our business will be. We'll keep you posted! If anyone knows of a cool place for us to check out, we would appreciate any suggestions.

Awww, I love this incredibly romantic shot!

We ran outside for a few shots of the bridal party and as soon as we were done it started pouring. Later, at the reception (at the Grand) the clouds gave way to a beautiful sunset and we got some more great shots. We couldn't have asked for better timing!

Sarah is really into hockey. Actually, she is finishing out her senior year in Traverse City because she was accepted to their girls' hockey team. How awesome is that!?!

I love it when we incorporate the model's interests into the photos. It makes them so much more personal.
